USAPD’s unarmed guards do not carry any weapons. Unarmed guards are a good option for some pre-qualified properties and other styles of services such as retail, loss prevention event security and so on. Although it does in fact give you the deterrent you are looking for and reporting to ensure accountability within the scope of services, it does limit how involved the officer can be due to officer safety. While and armed officer can approach multiple people involved in a violent felony infraction, the unarmed officer would be limited to calling for police support, assisting after the fact and detailed reporting. Unarmed service can be very affective in the right environment. Unarmed officers are trained in community involvement, reporting, OC spray and detail reporting.
